About me

Welcome to my Internet site.

My name is Natalia Simonian. I live and work in France in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, small town to the west of Paris. It has always been my dream to devote myself to painting.

Attending Art college in my teens I hadn’t thought that I would carry on this activity many years later when I would start attending workshops in The Academy of Painters of Abbey (l’Academie des Peintres de l’Abbey) in Poissy. The seven years spent in this unique place, an ancient dwelling and art studio of French artist Lucien Gros, have become an unforgettable period and led me eventually to become an artist.

I am thankful to my French professor Jean-Marc Denis who developed my painting skills. He is a unique person and dedicated professional who inspires to see surrounding things in their depth, in artistic manner.

Creating makes me happy. Spending hours and hours to imagine, contemplate, discern and capture invisible at first glance. Bring, afterwards, to canvas or paper what was fancied but concealed. Unclear and perceived becomes true. This world of staying one-to-one with the model, observe and study is fantastic to me. Catching… My favorite subjects to paint are still lifes and portraits. This is a rather delicate work that requires concentration and attention to detail for the sake of new color solutions, interaction of light and shadow, requiring inspiration from the point of setting composition throughout the whole process. Going back to ancient work gives a lot of pleasure as well. I think many artists are familiar with the sense of fulfilment when their works achieve tangible improvement or acquire new solving.

Among others, French impressionist artists gave me a lot of inspiration. This vibrant and brightly colored world is full of unexpected, inexhaustible. It also diverts from real life and allows to dream. It gives a relief. It lets to forget how our world is fragile and makes love it more. It was Marc Chagall, my great compatriot, who said that «in our life there is a single color, as on an artist’s palette, which provides the meaning of life and art. It is the color of love». Beautiful words to follow.
